Dev Log | The Hardest Part of the Arena Is Not Changing One More Card

admin

The Witches’ Arena unlocks after completing the game once. You can freely swap runes and cards, then combine them with environmental effects to create some very extreme builds. This is one of my favorite parts of the game.

Work-in-progress skill selection interface
A work-in-progress skill interface. Once all the options are lined up, I immediately want to change everything.

The feeling I want to preserve is this: the build already seems fine, but then I wonder—what if I replace this card? And maybe change the rune too?

Then the environmental effect joins in. Once a ridiculous idea appears in my head, I have to find out whether it actually works.

This combo attack illustration is here for dramatic effect. It is not a demonstration of a specific build.

Even after the story reaches an ending, the Arena gives you a place to keep experimenting. The fun is not simply equipping a card with a larger number. When the whole setup starts interacting, the way you play changes with it.

I always think one small adjustment will make it better. Usually that “small adjustment” becomes a complete rebuild.
